Q: Burning Brush
A: The burning of brush is permitted in most area of North Carolina provide a burning band is not in effect, a burn permit is required to burn brush. The North Carolina Division of Forest Resources issues burn permits online. Burn permits are also available at the Cashiers fire station, Zollers Hardware and other locations. Keep in mind that burning within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling is regulated by county authority, not the NCDFR. Go to the links page for a link to the NCDFR web site. There are restriction on what, where and when brush can be burned. The NCDFR website lists these restrictions.


Q: Response Time
A: The response time to a specific location can vary depending on road conditions, weather, time of day and traffic. The Cashiers Glenville Vol. Fire Department has four stations. Multiple stations reduce the departments response time and can lead to lower insurance cost for residents, (insurance rate are determined in part by the proximity of a property to a fire station).

Q: Distance from a Station
A: The approximate distance from one on the departments stations to a property can be obtained from one of the many online map programs such as MapQuest, Google Maps, etc. The address of the fire stations are listed on the stations page. The programs don’t work for all addresses and occasionally miss-locate an address giving a false result.

Q: Locating a parcel
A: Jackson County maintains a website that allows you to located a parcel based on the parcel address, PIN, owner name, etc. Check Links page for the address of their website

Q: Property Protection Class
A: Properties located within five miles of a station are a class 7. Properties located between five and six miles of a station are a class 9E. Properties located more than six miles from a station are a class 10. [See general information page and department rating page for more information]
